Type of Children: |
|
Children are of Latino ethnicity (Spanish and Mayan mix), and typically 3 months to 5 years of age. Children usually have full or part Mayan Indian ethnicity with varied skin tones. More boys than girls are available and siblings are unlikely. All children will be in foster care, most since birth. Many birthmothers will receive some prenatal care, and all children will be monitored by a pediatrician until they leave Guatemala. Older and special needs children are also available, and more than one unrelated child can be adopted at the same time. |

Parent Qualifications: |
|
Married couples and single women accepted. Adoptive parents should be at least 25 years old, and at least 1 parent must be a U.S. citizen. |

Referral Time: |
|
About 2-3 months after your I-600A form is approved (which usually takes 3-4 months). |

|
Processing Time: |
|
At least 6 months, once you accept a referral and your paperwork is in the foreign country. |

|
Travel Requirements: |
|
Only one parent is required to travel. The stay in Guatemala is 3-5 days. Escorts are available. Families will be accompanied and assisted during their trip by a bilingual coordinator or have a translator. |
