AMI works with a team of lawyers in Bulgaria that are experienced and knowledgeable and have a passion for adoption and the children they help. We oversee the progress of the paperwork as it moves through the ministries and court systems.

Bulgarian orphans live in state-run orphanages. Children are caucasian of Bulgarian, Gypsy, and sometimes Turkish decent.

 Adoption Details: Bulgaria

Type of Children:

Infants (at least 12 months old), toddlers, and children up to 16 years of age. Sibling groups also available.
Parent Qualifications:
Married couples, with or without children, and single parents are able to adopt from Bulgaria.
Referral Time:
Referrals are made by the Ministry of Justice of Bulgaria. Referral is made after your dossier is submitted to the Ministry of Justice in Bulgaria.
Processing Time:
Family must make the first trip within two months of receiving a referral.
Travel Requirements:
Two short trips are involved, but only one parent is required to travel. Adoptive parent(s) travel to Bulgaria to visit with the child once Ministry of Justice presents a referral. The first trip involves one week trip (families are required to visit their child for five consequtive days during the first trip). Second trip takes place once adoption is finalized approximately 2-4 months later. Second trip is to pick up your child, about 4 days in Bulgaria.
