Step 5 — Identify a child

Once your paperwork is underway, it is time to identify the child (or children) that you will adopt. If you have not already found a child, AMI will help to locate an ideal match after carefully considering your preferences for:

  • Gender
  • Age range
  • Single child or sibling group
  • Country of origin
  • Medical history

Once AMI has located a suitable child, based on your preferences and specific family needs, we will provide you with photographs and/or videos, and the child's medical history (which we strongly encourage you have reviewed by a pediatrician specializing in international adoption). You are under no obligation to accept the referral of the child. If you do not feel it is a good match, we will continue to search for a more suitable match. AMI strongly believes that the match must be right for your family, and that you feel comfortable and excited about your future son or daughter!

Once you accept a child referral, AMI will notify the orphanage and appropriate government officials overseas that parents have been found for the child, and will proceed with the necessary legal steps to finalize the adoption.
