Each country has its own requirements as to what documents are needed, and in what format they need to appear. The dossier may contain any of the following: Birth certificate for you and your spouse Marriage license/certificate, if applicable Divorce decree, if applicable Police clearance/criminal background check report for each parent Medical report for each parent Employment and income verification Financial statements BCIS approval Home study report Reference letters Photos of family and home Once the notarized documents are collected, they may also need to be certified by the U.S. State Department and/or authenticated by the appropriate embassy or consulate in the country where you plan to adopt.
